Principal CREW:
Rick Cowan, producer of "CSA"

Rick Cowan was born in Macon, Missouri (a small town of 5,000 in the north central portion of the state) and attended Northeast Missouri University under a full dramatic scholarship. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri to pursue his passion of being on stage while working as an Architectural Hardware Consultant. He eventually realized that, although the actors may not get paid, the directors always did, and decided that was what he wanted to do. Of course, he found he loved the creative control.

As part of a mid-life crisis, he became concerned that he had never pursued his true goal of working in film. Not being smart enough to realize he couldn't just step into the business...he did. Working as a production assistant for the first couple of years, he eventually grew to become assistant director, production and location manager, and producer. In addition to numerous regional and national commericals, Cowan has been involved with Robert Altman's
Kansas City, Stephen Soderberg's King of the Hill, and numerous other features.

In 1991, Rick became a principal in Hodcarrier Films and produced Kevin Willmott's debut film,
Ninth Street, a comedy/drama which features Martin Sheen and Isaac Hayes and attained its own domestic DVD/video distribution through Ideal Enterprises.

Cowan and Willmott then turned their attention to the current Sundance Film Festival offering,
C.S.A: The Confederate States of America. A project three years in the making, the film showcases their knowledge of mediums and styles by portraying one hundred forty plus years of cinematic documentation of a fictional world.

Rick is married to Wendy Thompson, who's an actress, and has three children and three grandchildren.

With his driving desire to tell stories not usually told, Cowan looks forward to many tumultuous and rewarding years of filmmaking ahead.
