| Matthew Jacobson, cinematographer of "CSA" Matthew Jacobson, the Director of Photography of C.S.A: The Confederate States of America, is an Assistant Professor in the Film Area of the Department of Theater and Film at the University of Kansas. He primarily teaches Film and Video Production classes, including Intermediate and Advanced Film and Video Production, as well as Experimental Film and Video Production. He has been teaching at the University of Kansas since 1999. Jacobson received his M.F.A. in Film and Video Production from the University of Southern California in 1991. He worked in the film and video industry in Los Angeles for the next seven years, working with directors and actors like Bryan Singer, Denise Richards, Hilary Swank, and Paul Walker. He began teaching part-time at his undergraduate alma mater, the California State University at Los Angeles, in 1996, and taught at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) during the 1998-1999 school year. In addition to teaching, Matt is also a cinematographer and director, with more than 50 feature film and video credits. A feature documentary he shot, Bukowski: Born Into This, was chosen for competition at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. He is a frequent collaborator with faculty in the Theatre Area at the University of Kansas, producing original video projects for incorportation into shows like The Magic Flute, The Waltz Project, and LULU. He continues to work in the industry while teaching, keeping "up-to-date" on the latest in digital production and post-production techniques and equipment. Matt is currently the Faculty Advisor for KU Filmworks, the student production society for the University of Kansas. In this position, he has served as Executive Producer for the Kansas Association of Broadcasters award-winning series, Out of Focus. He also serves as the Faculty Advisor for internships in the Film Area, placing Film Area students with local, regional, and national film and video companies. |
